Yucaipa’s first fire station, which is located at 35136 Avenue A, was constructed in 1939. Prior to that time, the Forest Service did what it could without facilities. The first station is owned by the city of Yucaipa and is leased by the Yucaipa Valley Historical Society. Together, with the assistance of Fire Chief Steve Shaw and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), seven layers of paint have been removed from the knotty pine walls and ceilings and repairs to the building are being completed.
Each decade of the fire station’s history will be on display,
along with artifacts and equipment from each era. The
society will provide opportunities to visit the museum as well
as provide tours for school students and special events.
